Baby Gingham Hat

BABY GINGHAM HAT

***PLEASE NOTE***

While searching for a baby hat pattern for a very chic lady I know who was expecting her first son after 3 daughters, I found this adorable little hat called the “Shabby Chic baby cap” on a blog.  The blogger went by the name of Melilab, and that is her Ravelry name as well.  She is to be given full praise for this hat design.  This is only my take on her design.  Please…all compliments should be given to her.
Once again, this is only my take on Melilab’s Shabby Chic baby cap.

  •      The blank squares represent color A
  •         The squares with the blue X represent color B
I’ve just color coded it here for ease of reading.  Use whichever color combination you choose.

Since this piece is knitted in the round, you follow the same direction throughout using this chart (you don’t need to figure out what side is the knit side and which is the purl side…It’s all knit).

DECREASES:

Round 1: *Ka, Kb, Ka, K2togb, K3b, k2togb* repeat until end of round
Round 2: *kb, ka, kb, ka, k4b* repeat until end of round.
Round 3: *ka, kb, k2toga, k2b, k2togB* repeat until end of round.
Round 4:  *kb, ka, Kb, k3b* repeat until end of round.
Round 5: (this is where I usually switch to DPN) Choose either color A or B.  This is the end of the fair
isle knitting. Divide stitches onto  4 DPN (12 stitches per needle).   *K2tog * repeat until
                  end of round.
Round 6: knit entire round.
Round 7: *k2tog* repeat until end of round.
Round 8: knit until end of round.   Divide stitches on to two needles (6 stitches on two needles)

Graft stitches together (I used Kitchener stitch). Or you can cinch the stitches together.

Weave ends together.

Put hat on baby & enjoy!!!
